What is BSc. Neurology?

BSc. Neurology is a 3 year undergraduate (UG) level course program. It is the branch of biology and medicine that involves the diagnosis and treatment of the nervous system. It is the study of nerves and the medical terms related to the human nervous system. The specialist in this branch is called as Neurologist.

 Neurologists are medical doctors or osteopath who treat nervous system, spinal, brain, nerves, muscles and pain related issues and disorders. They are well-trained and developed to investigate, diagnose and treat neurological problems. They are also involved in clinical trials and research and basic research programs. They are the non-surgical specialty. Neurologist should have the effective and good communication skills with best leadership quality. Neurologist diagnosis the disorders in central and peripheral nervous system in the patient. A neurologist will do other activities like research, clinical trial, and basic or translational research.

The branch of study is mainly focused on the central and peripheral nervous system to study about their coverings, blood vessels and all related tissues like muscles, nerves etc. Neurology is very helpful in studying the diseases and disorders concerning related to the nervous system, spinal cord, and nerves along with their treatment and prevention. A Neurologist is a person who has got complete training in Neurology. Medical practitioners who have done specialise in this field are generally known as Neurologists.  Neurologists are general physicians who are well trained and developed for treating, and managing the patients and diagnosing various problems of the nervous system. Neurologists are richly motivated and dedicated people, within the special branch, working with few of the most difficult medical conditions related to science technology. They treat disorders such as brain trauma, stroke, huge sclerosis, epilepsy, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease etc. Neurologists who deal with surgical proceedings are called as Neurosurgeons. There are 3 primary forms of Neurology- Clinical Neurophysiology, Child or pediatric Neurology, and Pain Medicine. Clinical Neurophysiology is related with diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorder of autonomic, central and peripheral nervous systems. Child or pediatric neurology deals with diagnosis and treatment of the brain and nervous system disorders in children and adults. Those who are specialised in Pain medicine focuses on relieving serious illnesses and chronic pains caused by Neurological disorders. Excluding from the main 3 specialization, there are various other specialisations. Every form of neurology deals with neural dysfunction in some form.

BSc. Neurology: Duration

Bachelor of Science in Neurology or B.Sc. Neurology is an undergraduate (UG) level course program which introduces students to the fundamentals of neurology technology. It is a 3 years course program which is divided into 6 semesters. Every semester lasts for the period of 6 months. The minimum duration is 3 years and the maximum duration is 6 years for Distance learning. For some of the institutes it is 4 years whereas one year is for internship program.
