What is BSc. Perfusion Technology?
B.Sc. in Perfusion Technology is a 3- year undergraduate (UG) level course program divided into 6 semesters, where each semester lasting for a period of 6 months. Perfusion Technology deals with the study of physiology, pathology and associated equipment used to support and function of the heart and lungs during medical surgical procedures.
Perfusion Technology is the study of allied respiratory organs of the human body. The course also throws considerable light on the associated equipment during procedures. Perfusion technologists operate the heart and lung machines and several types of high-end equipment under the guidance of the healthcare practitioner. These skilled professionals monitor optimal blood pressure with appropriate pharmacological and mechanical manipulation if something goes wrong, to enhance tissue. B.Sc. in Perfusion Technology is provided as a three-year course, and exams are conducted once a year in the non-semester pattern.
Perfusionists are important members of surgical and critical care teams which consists of cardiac surgeons, physician assistants, surgical operators and nurses. A Perfusionist continuously examine the equipment to control the speed of blood circulation, ones temperature, examine the oxygen levels and other gases present in the blood, blood clotting, status, the composition of the blood, blood products and medications when proceeded by the surgeon. They will make the surgical team informed of the patient’s condition continuously during the surgery is taking place. Perfusionists has an important part and also proceeds beyond the operation room to manage extra corporeal oxygenation machines for patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ones heart and lungs are not able to function properly. In addition to these critical responsibilities in the operating theatre, Perfusionists also monitor and selects all new equipment available, orders supplies, and technical support staff.

Bachelor of Science in Perfusion Technology or B.Sc Perfusion Technology is a 3-years undergraduate level course program. The duration to complete the course is 3 years and the maximum is 4-6 years.
