What is B.Tech. Biotechnology Engineering?

Biotechnology engineering is a undergraduate course program and it is a branch of applied biology and chemical engineering standards that involves the utilization of living things in technology, engineering, medicine, and several useful applications. It also includes genetic engineering and even cell and tissue culture technologies. Biotechnology is an accumulation of consolidated technologies applied to living cells for production of a specific product or upgrading its quality. It also involves domestication of animals, cultivation of plants and improvements through breeding session, artificial selection, and hybridization.

This branch of science not only includes biology but also subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering and lot more. Its application varies in enterprises for example pharmaceuticals, food, chemical, textiles, nutrition, bio-products, medicine, environmental conservation and animal sciences. Biotechnology has a huge variety of branches which genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry etc, and are also linked to practical sections such as chemical engineering, Computer Science, information technology, and robotics.

Biotechnology Engineering is a combination of chemistry, genetics, bio-chemistry,bio medical and microbiology.

Biotechnology Engineering are also provided in the field of animal husbandry, agriculture, production and conservation, development of medicines, vaccines, and insecticides and lot more.

Skills Required for Biotechnology Engineering candidates

Biotechnology engineers need to work with a wide range of medical, technical and administrative professionals. The key skillsets are as follows:

  • Tissue culture is one of the most popular used techniques in any biological or biomedical research lab. If you are interested for a placement or job, tissue culture will be a very valuable and efficient biotechnology skill to have.
  • (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a technique used to make more copies of a specific DNA region in vitro.
  • Gel electrophoresis is another brodly used technique in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and modern biotechnology.
  • Western blot, also known as protein immunoblot, it is a famous molecular biology technique for the detection and analysis of proteins based on their ability to bind to specific antibodies.
  • (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is a famous format of “wet-lab” type to detect the presence of a substance, in a liquid sample or wet sample. It is also known as ELISA
  • Mass spectrometry  is an analytical and effective technique that ionises chemical species and sorts the ions.
  • Confocal microscopy is known as  an optical imaging technique
  • Cell-based assays are extremely useful for learning the cellular mechanisms in a biological context.
