What is B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering?
- Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest and widest fields of engineering, Mechanical engineering is related with the design, construction, and use of machines. The course provides the students with the basic understanding and knowledge of how is the working of heavy tools and machineries. A student who are studying a mechanical engineering course programme they will acquire knowledge about designing of automobiles, electric motors, aircrafts and other heavy vehicles.
- Mechanical engineers will design from new batteries, athletic products to medical devices and from personal computers, air conditioners, automobile engines to electric power plants and everything else. These engineers also design machines that produce all the above said innovations.
- The scope of mechanical engineering in India and abroad is very high for every aspect of our lives are touched and felt by mechanical engineering in one way or the other. Since there are multiple industries, the career opportunities for students who are studying this course is huge.
- In India, Mechanical engineering is offered by various colleges in India at the UG as well PG level where students are awarded BTech and MTech degree respectively.
The most increasing scope of this specific field of job profile is that now they are need of professionals to join into financial and marketing aspects of product development and even into people and resource management. From all of those mechanical engineering offers a broad and wide variety of job options to students who are looking for a stable and stimulating career.

B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering: Admission Process
There are about 4300 engineering colleges in India. Admission in the most of the engineering colleges is done through one of the several entrance examination conducted at national and state level. Few of the private institutes also conduct their own entrance test. Moreover, few of the institutes also provide direct admission on the basis of merit in qualifying exam or on the basis of management seats.
10+2 passed out with (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) is the basic requirement to make an admission in BE/B.Tech Mechanical Engineering course. The pass Percentage required in qualifying exam is around 50% for most of the engineering institutes. For few of the top prestigious and famous institutes like IITs, NITs or BITS the minimum pass percentage criteria extends to 60%.
These are the criteria for admission through different modes:
Direct Admission- Engineering institutes/colleges which deliver direct admission have certain rules for admission. Either they provide admission on the basis of merit in qualifying exam i.e. 10+2 passes out or equivalent or there are few of the management seats reserved in private engineering colleges. For management seats the fee structure is generally more than others.

Mechanical Engineering career has a high scope. It is rightly called evergreen field as it is the only branch of engineering which is immune to the impact. Starting salaries for mechanical engineers, and for those on graduate training schemes, are in the range of £23,000 to £28,000.
- With experience this can increase to between £26,000 and £40,000. At a mid-level for lead or principle engineers, salaries are around £30,000 to £50,000.
- When you reach a senior level of engineers, such as chief engineer, and so on the salaries of £40,000 to £60,000+ can be achieved.
Salaries vary from company to company and few of the sectors attract higher salaries, according to demand.
