Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu by an Act of State Legislature [Act No.43 of 1997]. Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University offers legal education on-campus as well as through 8 of their affiliated colleges in Tamil Nadu located at Chennai, Coimbatore, Vellore, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Salem, Trichy, and Chengalpattu. Admission in Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University can be done both online and offline. Both national, as well as international students, can take admission in the University. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral programs.

It is named after the person who framed the Indian Constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. It was inaugurated on 20th September 1997, and the University started on 3rd October 1997. The main objective of Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University is to circulate, research, learn and gain more knowledge in the field of law. Its main objective is to uplift the standard of legal education in the state of Tamil Nadu. TNDALU is recognized by the BCI (Bar Council of India) and UGC (University Grants Commission). It is a member of the AIU (Association of Indian Universities), Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi, and Association of Common Wealth Universities, U.K. The fact that it is the first full-fledged law university in the country makes it one of its kind. 

The University has established The School of Excellence since 2002 at its campus which offers 3 to 5 years of integrated undergraduate courses in Law. TNDALU has a Postgraduate and Research Centre offering 8 different specializations in Master of Law Degree Course, doctoral programs and researching in most diverse areas of law. There is a Distance Education unit within the campus where they offer a few evening college programs for various postgraduate diploma courses.

The School of Excellence in Law (SOEL) offers Viz. B. A. B. L. (Hons) whose main objective is to lay more stress on making law students professionally competent. The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University introduced a center SIIC (student – industry interface) which is to open more avenues for the students in the legal sphere. Reputed banks and leading law firms recruit students from the University every year. There are internship programs in which a lot of students are hired by various law firms. They focus on creating better avenues other than professional practices or joining MNCs or different Corporate companies.

Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University is well connected with roads and rails. The infrastructure of TNDALU is huge. It is far better than most government colleges and universities. The classrooms are air-conditioned. The campus is completely Wi-Fi enabled. A whole floor is dedicated to the computer lab. The library is as huge as 3 whole floors. It has each and every law book and also you can go through any legal website free of charge. There is a separate hostel for both boys and girls available within the campus. A few other facilities available on the campus are – auditorium, medical room, gym, cafeteria.

The School of best Excellence in Law (SOEL) was founded in the year 2002. It provides five year integrated law degree course program Viz. B. A. B. L. (Hons). It was primarily intended to offer best quality legal education on parwith the National Law Schools in the country. The course program stress is laid more on how to make the law students professionally competent. The database of the IV and V year students of SOEL in also readily available.

In order to make a rich niche in legal education, The Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University has started a student – industry interface Centre (SIIC) for opening more avenues in the legal sphere. We already do the credit of reputed banks and leading law firms in our database. Our first batch of Post Graduate young students specialised in Business Law has been recruitment by banks through the Campus interview last year.

As part of internship programme, our students are given inputs to the needs of the Industry. Lot of students in the 6th and 7th Semester have been absorbed by several law firms and few are best serving to the Hon’ble High Court Judges, Chennai. At this juncture, we look forward in creating better avenues apart from good  professional practices, joining hands with Corporate, IT mayos, MNC’s. It is our proud privilege to really announce that our placement Cell awaits formal inauguration.
