ABOUT NATIONAL LAW SCHOOL OF INDIA UNIVERSITY
NATIONAL LAW SCHOOL OF INDIA UNIVERSITY (NLSIU) was the first National Law University established in India in the year 1986. As a premier institution, the University had a mission to pioneer legal educational reforms and transform the Indian legal system through research and policy interventions. The University was one of the first universities in the country to introduce a five-year integrated law degree at the undergraduate level in 1988.
The University is committed to equip the students with the knowledge, tools and facilities required for tackling the social and moral problems of the day and to meet the current environmental and socio-political challenges, especially in the developing world.
Chief Justice of India serves as the school’s chancellor. The General Council has the power to review the broad policies and programmes of the University and suggest measures for the improvement and development of the School. The Executive Council is the chief executive body of the University in which all the administrative control and management of the NLSIU is vested. The day-to-day management and administration of the university is carried out by the incumbent Vice-Chancellor. The University’s Governing bodies include representatives from the Bar Council of India, the Judiciary, the Government of Karnataka, and the Law School faculty. The University is housed in the Bengaluru University campus.
NLSIU’s sprawling 23-acre campus in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, is home to a vibrant student community that includes student associations and events. Students get to engage in moot courts and debates at a competitive level, both domestically and internationally. Equipped with a state-of-the-art library, multiple academic centres, student housing and essential facilities, the University is committed to serving as a breeding ground for future leaders.

NATIONAL LAW SCHOOL OF INDIA UNIVERSITY — FACILITIES
NLSIU’s sprawling 23-acre campus in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, is home to a vibrant student community. The campus comprises an academic block, student hostels, faculty quarters, a state-of-the-art library, canteens, a health centre, gym facilities, and discussion rooms among other spaces for academic and community based activities.
The Law School has a well stocked library of more than 50,000 books, 20,000 journals ranging from general and subjects, textbooks, reference books, back volumes of journals, reports, and current legal periodicals. The University also houses computerized catalogues to assist the students and research scholars.
The library also provides remote access to library resources for academic and research purposes. The University provides students with access to a wide range of databases. While access to these databases is granted to all students, it is governed by licensing arrangements between the University and the publishers. Apart from these databases, the university provides a number of e-journals.
Smart classrooms facilitate remote access to the library resources, learning experiences that can be shared through various digital mediums, as well as processes to submit, access and search for research projects, digitally. The University has set up facilities and a learning centre to help organize seminars, conferences and workshops for all students.
The college has institutional arrangement with S.K. Hospital, Nagarbhavi, situated close by, to provide hospital attention including in-hospital care where required.
The boys and girls are accommodated in separate hostels within the campus. The hostels have the following amenities for the students:

- Hot water and Laundry facilities
- 24/7 Electricity and Internet Connectivity
The wardens stay on campus and students are free to approach them regarding any problem, inconvenience, or ill-health.
The University has a basketball court, a tennis court, an indoor facility for table tennis, a football stadium, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, an aerobics and yoga centre. The Sports Committee organizes SPIRITUS, the University’s annual sports fest which attracts massive participation from across India.
Students can choose from a range of associations and clubs, to join and discover community on campus. The Student Bar Association or SBA helps organize several activities, conferences and festivals through its sub-committees.
