Tamil Nadu National Law University was started in the year 2012 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Its almost over 25-acre campus which is situated in the at Navalurkuttappattu which is around 10 kilometres away from the Sessions and District Court of subordinate courts. The university was started by the former Honourable Chief Minister Late Dr J Jayalalithaa. The course programs provided by TNNLU which include B.A.LL.B, B.Com.LL.B, LL.M and Ph.D course programs, which are recognised and approved by UGC. It has also received the recognition of Bar Council of India. TNNLU is a residential university with is also about 600 students, 30 dedicated members professors and 50 administrative and supporting staff members. The university is the first national-level university in Tamil Nadu to be stared in the field of law, advocacy and professional skills and legal processes. Renowned and good judges, senior advocates, good academicians, well practitioners from all over and across the world visit TNNLU for special lectures and short term degree course programs on a range of emerging high rich areas in all the relevant areas.

The Tamil Nadu National Law University started to offer best quality legal education by the Tamil Nadu National Law School Act, in the year 2012. The School is located over 25 acre campus in the Tiruchirppalli, at Navalurkuttappattu. The School is said to be open for admission process by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Adequate and best infra structural facilities that includes Administrative, Academic, Amenities, Examination and Library Blocs, Halls of residence for both boys and girls students, Games and Sports facilities, Wi-Fi Facility, Health Care Centre, Bank, Mess, Gym, Examination Hall, Auditorium, Faculty members and Staff Quarters as well as Guest House have been constructed with international standards. The University Grants Commission has included the Tamil Nadu National Law University in the approved list of Universities, and TNNLS has been granted Section 12-B Status
