Osmania University, Hyderabad is founded by Nawab Osman Ali Khan, the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad. Osman University was founded in the year 1918. It is the 7th oldest University in the country and 3rd oldest university in south India. The university is diffuse over 1300 acres of land.
Civil servant Sir Akbar Hydari, who was the home secretary to the state government take the initiative. He emphasised the need for the establishment of an educational institution with Urdu as a medium of instruction as it is the language of the widest currency in India and Urdu is an official language in the state.
Nizam College, a constituent college of Osmania University has been selected as the best institute in arts and science field of Telangana state by VIT University.
Osmania University aims to earn the excellence in research and teaching and this also aims to earn the challenges through informed social outreach of modern and complex society.
