About Government College of Technology – [GCT], Coimbatore

The Government College of Technology – [GCT], Coimbatore, formerly known as Arthur Hope College of Technology was established in 1945. It is one of the prestigious Engineering institutions in the country greatly contributing to the academic and technological developments.

The College aims to emerge as a centre of excellence and eminence by imparting futuristic technical education of global standards through innovative teaching and learning practices.

The College offers nine UG programmes and eleven P.G. Programmes as well as Ph. D programmes in all branches of study.

GCT is one of the participating Institutions in Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) of Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. GCE collaborates with different industries, R&D labs and public sector companies and the experts from industries regularly interact with the College to revise the curriculum from time to time in line with the industry expectations.

With well qualified and experienced staff in all the Departments and excellent infrastructural facilities, the Government College of Technology,  Coimbatore is among the top Engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.

The College Auditorium equipped with projector and wide screen has a seating capacity of 850 and is used for screening pictures and other purposes.

The excellent library of the College has more than one lakh documents consisting of technical books, reports, standards and back volumes of journals. It has a large collection of 25493 bound volumes and 15000 books. The library also subscribes to over 500 e-journals. Each Department has its own library.

Separate hostels are available for boys and girls with comfortable rooms and all the facilities. The mess of the hostels serves nutritious and healthy food at scheduled timings.

There are 153 staff quarters including those for Principal and Senior academic faculty in the College Campus and those for others in the adjacent forest college campus.

State Bank of India operates a branch with 2 ATMs in the College campus. The other amenities are a GCT Students’ Cooperative Store with stationery items, catering facilities by Non-Resident Student’s Centre and a sub-post office.

There is also an in-house clinic for immediate health care needs of students and staff with the Medical Officer visiting the campus regularly for providing medical treatments.

A college bus is made available to the students and staff to meet their needs.

A faculty Training Centre is functioning in the College for upgrading the teaching kills of the faculty.

The Government College of Engineering – [GCE], Chennai has been ranked 90 in the Engineering Category in 2019 by NIRF.

The eligibility for B.E. / B. Tech is a pass in HSC or its equivalent with a minimum percentage of 45% for General Category and 40% for others. For M.E. Degree course, the candidate is required to pass the qualifying examination recognized by Anna University. Candidates need to appear for the TANCET Examination conducted by Anna University or GATE Entrance Exam.

TNEA cut off 2020 has been released by Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) along with TNEA rank list. The authority has declared the TNEA 2020 cutoffs for various categories depending on several factors for all candidates. TNEA cut off score is the minimum marks that candidates have to secure for being eligible for admission to B. Tech courses.

The TNEA 2020 cut off scores for admission are released after each round of counseling on the official website.

The Placement cell of the College coordinates campus recruitments by actively associating with industry. It organizes summer camps for aspiring candidates and conducts personality development workshops.  The College trains the students in the development of soft skills, and organizes mock group discussions and allied exercises enhancing the confidence of the students.  

In addition, the Engineering College provides career guidance by counseling and one to one interactions for the average and below average students. The College instills a professional touch in the students through strong behavioral skills.

A number of reputed organizations visit the college for placing the students every year. The infrastructure of the college is good. Students are provided with 24 hours Wi-Fi access and smart classrooms. Each classroom is provided with projectors and screen. Good quality food at a cheap rate is provided in the college hostel. There is a huge ground, and many intercollegiate games are conducted here. The basketball courts are also available for playing basketball.

The teachers have good knowledge and ready to help students at any time. Teachers take classes very systematically.
