Dr. YSR Horticultural University is founded by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in the year 2007 to give quality education and training in horticulture to candidates. It is 2nd Horticulture University of the nation and 1st in south India. For Andhra Pradesh being the leader in the production of oil palm, mango, turmeric, chilies,sweet papaya, orange, and also being the 2nd largest producer of total fruits, deserves a Horticultural university to raise the sustainability, productivity, and commercialization of horticulture in the state.
As a horticulture university, it mainly focuses on researching and implementation in the field of increasing productivity, Sustaining productivity under biotic and abiotic stresses, Environment Protection, Export Promotion, Processing and value addition and Increasing Profitability to farmers. Agriculture is the main source of income in India and Dr. YSR Horticultural University helps farmers learn, grow and implement all the modern technologies available for the betterment of our country. The university offers UG, PG and PhD courses in the field of Horticulture at various institutes affiliated to it. Dr.Y.S.R. Horticultural University presently has 7 Colleges, 12 departments.

DR. Y.S.R HORTICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, TADEPALLIGUDEM, FACILITIES
We have a Wi-Fi facility at our college. Along with it, we have equipped laboratories and classrooms with projectors and all new technology. There is a library equipped with books that we need. The hostel is very good and was constructed in 2010. It has a Wi-Fi facility in the hostel as well. The mess was managed by students, and hence the quality of the food served was very good. We have a basketball court, volleyball court, running track, badminton court. Medical facilities are available in the hostel itself.
Hostel:
- All the institute of Horticulture run by the university have hostel facilities for both boys and girls.
- The 5 Horticulture Polytechnics too provide completely equipped hostel facilities for the students.
Sports: Students of this university are encouraged to take part in various games and sports which would help them to stay healthy and fit, that will also give dimensions to their curriculum.
