Bharathiar University was founded at Coimbatore. It is run by the Government of Tamilnadu in February 1982. It is under the arrangement of the Bharathiar University Act, in the year 1981. The college was re-authorize at the ‘A’ Grade level by NAAC. Bharathiar University received the recognition from University Grants Commission(UGS) New Delhi in May 1985 for grants. Bharathiar University Admission is provided to PG and Research program in the streams of Commerce, Computer Application, Physical Education, Human Resource Management, Mass Communication, Social work, Education.
The
University was named after great national poet Subramania Bharathi is
enshrined with the motto “Educate to Elevate”. The main aim of the University
is to participate in the task of including necessary knowledge, skills and
creative attitudes and values among the youth of the country to contribute more
effectively towards establishing an equitable social, economic and secular
ideal of the nation.

Hostels:
The Bharathiar University, Coimbatore has four hostels namely Ladies Hostel (for research scholars and PG students), Men’s Hostel (mainly for research scholars) and MBA & Additional Hostel (mainly for PG students).
All hostels are well equipped with basic and modern facilities and attached with adequate guest rooms to accommodate the guests who visit the hostels.
The hostel for teachers is located in the residential campus of the university that caters to the needs of teachers those who are visiting the university for official purposes.
Fitness center:
Bharathiar
University Fitness Centre is functioning in the basement of the School of
Distance Education Building to cater to the fitness needs of all staff,
students, and outsiders.
There
is a separate women fitness center as well.
Qualified
fitness instructors are available for men and women in both morning and evening
on all the days except Sundays to guide the persons
Canteen:
There
are two Canteens functioning in the University campus.
It
is open on all working days of the University.
The
canteen is open from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm and there are snacks, vegetarian and
sometimes non-vegetarian food items are available for students, staff, parents
and visitors.
Post Office:
There
is also a Post-office in the campus.
This
facility is available in behind the administrative building. It functions from
10 am to 5.30 pm.
Services
such as the sale of stamps, registration of letters and parcels, speed post
letters, including letters to foreign countries, telegrams, etc are available.
Bank of India
The
Bank of India functions from 10 am to 4.00 pm from Monday to Friday and on
Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm for students’ banking and financial needs.
The
students of Regular and distance Education programs can pay their fees in the
extension counter.
The
Bank offers services such as savings account, current account, term deposit,
foreign exchange services, Multi Branch Banking (can be operated from 750
branches of Bank of India at National level).
The
Bank proposes to set up an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) facility very
shortly.
Health Centre:
The
Bharathiar University Health Centre functions next to the Teachers’ Hostel.
It
is equipped with a Medical Officer available from 11.30 a.m to 2.00 p.m on all
working days.
A
full-fledged upgraded medical campus with an on call 24*7 Doctor service also
established.
There
is also an ambulance is also purchased for emergency needs of the patients.
Library:
The
Library of Bharathiar University was established in the year 1981 and is spread
across an area of 11,750 sq.feet.
The
seating capacity currently is about 300, and has over 1,47,350 volumes covering
all disciplines.
The
library subscribes to 153 National and International journals and seven leading
newspapers.
150
journals magazines and periodicals are received on gratis. Back issues of journals
are available. Photocopying facility is also available inside the library.

NIRF 2020 (Overall Rankings) from 45th position in the year 2017.
