VELS University located in Pallavaram, the suburb of Chennai, Tamil Nadu started functioning in the year 1992. VELS University was established by Dr. MGR. Vael’s Educational Trust which is always known for its dedication in transforming education to the weaker sections of the society. It was declared a Deemed to be University in 2008.
The Institute aims at being an epitome of excellence in higher education by effectively providing high quality education and rigorous training to students in multiple streams of study. Towards this goal, the University strives to effectively impart knowledge, promote innovative thinking, facilitate skill enhancement through add on courses and hands on training and undertake high quality research.

The University has a modern infrastructure built in a campus of 29.13 acres. The Institute has 30 smart class rooms apart from 306 other spacious class rooms and 161 well equipped laboratories. Besides, there are 4 auditoriums and 6 seminar halls. The University has a state of art laboratory along with an air-conditioned computer training center. The institute has modern conference halls with high tech audio visual communication aids and a seating capacity of 1500 persons. A well equipped digital library within fully air-conditioned auditorium and a broadband internet connectivity 24/7.
VISTAS Library building has a seating capacity of 500 persons and follows Open Access System blended with State -of-the art facilities. The Library houses a collection of 124160 Books, 147525 e-Books, 12660 Back Volumes, 4539 Dissertations and 5254 Audio Visual Resources. The Library subscribes to more than 369 Periodicals (National & International) and 12535 e-Journals. To facilitate quality teaching & research, Digital Library access to electronic information services to ensure the information needs of our Students and faculty is available.
A free clinic with ATM facilities and well organized transportation are hallmarks of the University. To ensure continuous supply, HT power supply is maintained specifically for University. In order to overcome unexpected power failures, two separate generators with capacity of 200 kw & 400 kw were installed in the campus.
| The Institute hostels accommodate boys and girls separately within the University campus in comfortable and conveniently placed spacious rooms with storage facilities. The Hostels have free wi-fi facility and well stocked libraries are also available. Mess and Canteen facilities are available at affordable prices. Candidates for UG courses must have passed to be 10+2 examination with minimum 50% marks. The applicants for PG and Doctorate programmes must have a Bachelors’ and Masters’ degree respectively with minimum 50% marks in aggregate. The eligibility for Diploma is a pass in 10th standard. Candidates can either apply online or download the application form-cum-prospectus from the deemed-to-be University’s website and mail the filled application form along with a demand draft (DD) to the head office. Candidates must ensure their eligibility criteria from the official website before applying for any of the programme.

The Centre for Career Development at VELS Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS) conducts training sessions to groom students and organizes placement drives.
In 2019, VISTAS placement session had 78per cent success rate. More than 1,100 students were recruited by various top companies, including TCS, L&T Infotech, Cognizant, ICICI Bank and IFB.

Placements in the Institute are good. Most of the seniors got placed in good companies with a good salary package. Various companies visited the College, such as Kotak Mahindra Bank, Justdial, Accenture, Sharekhan, etc.
The infrastructure of the college is good with a good and friendly environment. Wi-Fi facilities in every block of the college are good. Classrooms are very neat. Teachers are very helpful during class hours and non-class hours, and they are well-qualified and knowledgeable.
Their teaching quality is very good as compared to other college faculty members. They are very approachable with the students, and students also have a good opinion on teachers. They are very friendly with the students and know their problems. They act as a mentor to the students and guide them in a proper way. Lot of events and fests are conducted in the college in every department to bring awareness among the students. Every student is asked to perform in every event to improve their communication skills and knowledge. They conduct events and allow other college students to participate in the events, and they also allow their college students to participate in other colleges.
