Velammal College of Engineering and Technology in Madurai, a self-financing institution, was established in 2007 by Velammal Educational Trust, Chennai to impart quality technical education to the socially and the economically challenged sections of South Tamil Nadu.
The Vision of the College is to emerge and sustain as a center of excellence for technical and managerial education upholding social values by imparting comprehensive, innovative and value-based technical education.
Affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, the College is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and is accredited by NBA.
The College offers 6 under graduate courses and 5 post graduate courses in Engineering and Technology.
The institution takes pride in having a team of 162 well learned and experienced faculty as Heads of various departments and in having 40 Ph.D holders among the teaching fraternity. An equal number of faculty members are pursuing their Ph.D. The College has produced many University Ranks from time to time. VCET, Madurai has a world class infrastructure and state-of-the-art laboratories well equipped with latest equipments.
The College Library has a large collection of resources including 26,358 Volumes and 10,934 Titles of books, 64 national periodicals and 876 Compact Disks. It also has a Digital Library which provides online access to the e-resources of the Digital Library portals of IEEE, ASME, etc.
Separate hostels are available for men and women situated within the college campus. The hostels can accommodate 600 boys and 300 girls on sharing basis.The various facilities include 24 hours water facility from RO plant, mess providing both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food and Internet facilities for inmates every evening and during Sundays. ATM facility is available for the hostel inmates.
The Mess is spacious with a dining hall and kitchen. Separate seating arrangements are made for both boys and girls, as well as for Vegetarians and Non-Vegetarians.
At VCET, sports activities by the students are encouraged and the students regularly participate in Anna University Tournaments, Tamil Nadu Inter Engineering Sports, Association Tournaments and Invitation Tournaments and bring laurels to the institution. The play field area of 2 acres includes courts for Basketball, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Tennis, Handball, Ball Badminton, Kho–Kho and Athletics Track & Field. Besides, indoor games facilities for Table Tennis Chess and Carrom Board are also available as well as a well equipped gymnasium.
The transport is available on all routes During all the working days covering 30km in and around Madurai. During coaching & special classes, model exam and University exam period buses will be operated in limited routes depending upon student’s strength.
Student organizations of the College provide co-curricular opportunities for the students strengthening the friendship and bonds.

For B. E./B. Tech, the applicant should pass 10+2 from a recognized Board with a minimum of 50% for General, 45% for OC, and 40% for SC/ST/MBC/BC average in all relevant papers.
The minimum eligibility marks for various categories for M.E. / M. Tech Degree Courses are a ‘Pass’ in recognized bachelor’s degree obtaining at least 50% of the qualifying examination (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category). Candidates who pass in the qualifying degree course will appear for TANCET Exam.or MAT/GATE.

Their quality of teaching is more relevant to the studies; the course curriculum is more relevant making the students ready for attending placements. The hostel at the College is very good and neat. Everything is good at the College. In the evening, the students can play outdoor games.
