The Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology established in 1990 is a government engineering institution located at Bagayam, Vellore. It is one of the six government engineering colleges fully governed by the Directorate of Technical Education of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
The Institute aims at providing high quality learning environment through innovative teaching and promoting research to produce globally competitive engineers of excellent quality.
The College is approved by AICTE, New Delhi. It is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.
The Institute offers 5 under rgraduate and 3 post graduate programmes in Engineering and Technology. Besides, it also conducts four part-time courses. Facilities too are available for doing Ph.D. in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering.

With excellent infrastructure and serene atmosphere favouring studies, the College has spacious class rooms and well equipped laboratories and workshops. Some of the other facilities available are indicated below.
The Institute has a well stocked library with a wide collection of over 28,314 volumes of Books, Video courses and CDs pertaining to various disciplines. In addition to engineering texts and books of technical importance, a number of books of general value and interest are also available. The Insitute also subscribes to the number of national and international journals for the useof the students.
The library is a member of INDEST Consortium enabling online access
The Institute has high speed Internet connection for the use of the students enabling them to widen their knowledge and to help prepare paper presentations and assignments.
The boy’s hostel of the Institute has a total No. of 70 rooms to accommodate 320 students. The facilities include sufficient purified water, magazines, Mini Gym Sports Kit, Television, separate cot, table and chair, STD booth, dispensary and Internet browsing Centre.
The girls are accommodated in two hostels with a capacity of 240. Apart from the facilities mentioned above, the hostels have incoming telephone facility and an outgoing coin booth phone.
An ATM of the State bank of India is functioning at the entrance of the campus, useful for both students and the public.
The College is providing canteen facility located at the center place of college campus to the students as well as its teaching and non teaching staff. It provides hygienic and economical varieties of foodm including breakfast, lunch and other snacks
The sports facilities of the Institute are many and well-equipped, catering to a wide range of sports. There are indoor games as well as extensive space for outdoor sports.

For B.E./B.tech prgrammes, the Applicant should pass 10+2 from a recognized Board with a minimum of 50% for General, 45% for OC, and 40% for SC/ST/MBC/BC average in all relevant papers.
The minimum eligibility marks for various categories for M.E. / M.Tech Degree Courses are a ‘Pass’ in recognized bachelor’s degree obtaining atleast 50% of the qualifying examination (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category). Candidates who pass in the qualifying degree course will appear for TANCET Exam.or MAT/GATE.

Faculty members provide good guidance and are supportive. Infrastructure is peaceful and lab facilities are spacious and well-maintained. Wi-Fi facilities are available for the students free of cost.
Classrooms are spacious and libraries have a good reading atmosphere. Hostels are excellent and the quality of food is better than other Colleges. Medical situations and emergencies are well taken care of. Sports and gamings are given equal importance to studies, as a student actively participates in every sport events.
