CLAT 2021 or Common Law Admission Test is a national level entrance examination conducted for admission to the LLB, integrated LLB & LLM courses all over the country. It is regulated by the 18 National Law Universities (NLUs) on a rotation basis. CLAT scorecard is accepted by all law institutions located in India.

CLAT 2021 Exam will be held on 13th June 2021. The Application Form has been released from 1st January 2021. The other details are given below.

CLAT 2021 Application Form

  • The application form has been released from 1st January 2021.
  • The last date for registration will be till 31st March 2021.
  • Applicants can submit the application form via online mode.
  • At the time of registration, candidates must provide valid/ working email ID & phone number in the application form.
  • Also it will be mandatory for candidates to upload scanned images of passport size photograph & signature in the prescribed format and size.
  • The CLAT Application correction facility will be also provided for a limited time period to make necessary changes in the application details.
  • At last, candidates are advised to also take printout of filled in application form for further use.

Application Fee:

  • Candidates can submit the application fee via online (credit card/ debit card) mode.
  • General/ OBC/ PWD/ SAP category candidates have to submit Rs.4000 as application fee.
  • The application fee for SC/ ST category candidates is Rs.3000.

  • CLAT 2021 Application has been released through online mode. Any offline facility is not provided to apply for CLAT 2021.
  • Candidates can fill their application form from 1st January 2021.
  • Fill all the asked details including name, address, personal details and other education details.
  • Candidates must provide their valid email ID and mobile number at the time of registration to get the login details.
  • Upload scanned documents i.e. photograph, signature, etc. in the prescribed format. Documents size should be in JPG/ JPEG format.
  • According to the specifications, the passport size photograph should be between 20 KB to 50 KB. The size of the signature should be between 10 KB to 20 KB.
  • Fill details carefully, after submission of form any changes will not be accepted.
  • Last date to submit application form will be till 31st March 2021.
  • Candidates should fill all 22 NLUs preferences as per their choice at the time of filling the application form.
  • The CLAT Application correction facility will be also provided for limited time period to make necessary changes in the application details.
  • There is no need to send any hard copy of the application form to CLAT office.
  • Candidates must take print out of the filled application form and keep it safe for future references.

CLAT 2021 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The entrance exam will be held for the candidates who are interested in LL.M and LL.B courses offered by the 22 law universities of the country. The eligibility criteria of CLAT 2021 provide an overview of the minimum requirement for applying and appearing in the law entrance exam.

Thus, before filling the CLAT 2021 application form, candidates must read the eligibility criteria carefully as to  whether they will be fulfilling the eligibility norms or not. The CLAT eligibility criteria 2021 will be as given below:

  • Candidates must be Indian Nationals.
  • NRIs candidates can also apply for the exam.
  • NRIs may directly contact the participating universities directly for the admission regarding foreign national candidate.

There is no upper age limit to apply for CLAT 2021.

Academic Qualifications for UG Courses

  • Candidates must have qualified Higher Secondary School/Intermediate or equivalent examination from 10+2 education system from a recognized board.
  • Candidates must have secured at least 45% marks in aggregate of the total marks and if belonging to SC/ST category, they should have a minimum of 40% marks.
  • Students appearing in the qualifying exam in March/April 2021 will be also eligible to apply. Such candidates have to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission.

Academic Qualifications for PG Courses

  • Candidates must have completed the LL.B or five-year Integrated LL.B degree from a recognized university as prescribed by the participating universities.
  • Candidates have to secure minimum 55% marks and (50% in case of SC/ST candidates).
  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam in the month of April/ May 2021 will be also eligible to apply.

Note: Candidates who are having supplementary, can also apply for the exam, but they have to clear the supplementary exam and have to show the proof of qualifying exam.

Steps to Download the Admit Card

  1. Visit the official website of CLAT consortium
  2. Click on the “Login” button and enter your registered mobile number and password to login for the admit card
  3. The applicant dashboard will open up and, candidates have to click on the ‘Download Admit Card’ link given at the top right of the screen
  4. A new tab will open up where ‘CLAT Admit Card Number” and “Admit Card Date of Birth” and an “Admit Card link”
  5. Click on the link and a new tab will open up, enter the admit card details as shared above to login 
  6. The admit card will appear on the screen mentioning details regarding the exam appearing candidates and exam centre details besides CLAT exam schedule
  7.  Click on ‘download admit card’ and a pdf file will be saved on the device
  8. Before downloading the admit card, candidates need to cross-check the details on it

Get at least 3 printouts of the admit card on an A4 sheet for future references.

CLAT Exam will be held through online mode on 13 June 2021. The CLAT exam pattern for UG & PG programmes is  given below:

CLAT Undergraduate (UG) Exam Pattern:

  • Duration: The duration of the examination will be two hours.
  • Number of Questions: 150 questions will be asked in the examination.
  • Type of Questions: The questions will be of objective type (multiple choice questions).
  • Language: The question paper will be asked in English language only.
  • Marking Scheme: Each question will carry one mark.
  • Negative Marking: There will be negative marking process. 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

The questions will come from the following sections and the number of marks for each section is given below:

CLAT 2021 Syllabus

Candidates appearing for the exam must know the syllabus of CLAT 2021. The CLAT syllabus 2021 includes topics from these five subjects which are given below:

English including Comprehension:

  • English Vocabulary: Antonyms, Synonyms and Analogies.
  • English Proficiency: Idioms and Phrases, One Word Substitution, Sentence Improvement, Rearrangement of Sentence in Paragraph, Rearrangement of Words in Sentence, Fill in the blanks and Cloze Tests.
  • English Usage Errors: Common Errors, Spotting Errors, Inappropriate Usage of Words and Spelling Mistakes (English Usage), Use of Correct Word.
  • English Comprehension: Paragraph will be given. Questions will be asked from that paragraph. Understand the para and answer the questions accordingly.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs:

Events of National and International importance also covering current events in area of Economics, Science, Technology, Sports, Persons and Places, Static GK & Latest Happening, Books and Authors.

Mathematics

  • Arithmetic (Number Theory): Number Systems, Surds and Indices, Square Roots, Fractions and Decimals, HCF and LCM, Simplification, Approximations, Ratio and Proportion, Average and Logarithms.
  • Commercial Mathematics: Interest, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Partnership and Discounts.
  • Mensuration: Areas and Volumes.

Legal Aptitude

  • This section will judge your interest towards study of law, research aptitude and problem solving ability.
  • These questions will be related to legal propositions and set of facts satisfying the propositions.
  • Such propositions may or may not be true, you have to assume them and answer the questions accordingly.
  • Some major topics are International Law, Criminal Law, Indian Constitution, Legal Terms, Legal Maxims, Family Law, Contracts and Torts.

Logical Reasoning

  • Reasoning Tests: Direction and Distance Test, Analogy Test, Classification (Odd Man Out) Test, Coding Decoding Test, Number Test, Series Test, Relationships Test, Alphabet Test, Ranking Tests and Time Sequence Test.
  • Logic Tests: Statements Assumptions, Statements Arguments, Statements Conclusions and Statements Action.

CLAT Counseling 2021

CLAT 2021 Counseling will be conducted for admission to UG and PG law degree programmes. The courses are offered by CLAT participating institutions, including NLUs, government and private institutions. The admission is provided through centralized counseling. The counseling process takes place in four rounds.

The seat allotment can be done on merit-cum-preference basis. After a few days of the declaration of written result, the authority will release the merit list in which candidates must check their names. Candidates those names appear in the merit list will be called for the counseling.

CLAT Counseling Procedure 2021

The CLAT centralized counseling takes place through online mode. Below, candidates can check the step-wise procedure of admission in CLAT participating NLU’s:

Step 1: Publication of 1st indicative seat allotment list:

  • The CLAT office publish the university-wise first indicative list through online mode.
  • It has been released on the basis of merit-cum-preference.
  • The list can be accessed from the CLAT website.

Step 2: Payment of counseling fee and exercising the option for provisionally selected candidates:

  • Candidates are called for web based counseling from various categories.
  • Candidates have to pay the counseling fee of Rs. 50,000/-.
  • Candidates those fail to deposit the requisite amount of fee for the counseling before the last date, their names can be dropped from the CLAT 2021 merit list.
  • Candidates can only reserve their seats if they will pay the required amount of counseling fee.

Step 3: Publishing the second list having the names of finalized candidates and additional wait listed candidates:

  • The CLAT office has released the second list having the names of the candidates those will have paid the counseling fee and reserve their seats.
  • The list of wait listed candidates also be released against the dropped out candidates.
  • The provisionally selected candidates have to submit the counseling fee within prescribed time period to reserve their seats.
  • Step 4: Publishing of third list of selected candidates:
  • The CLAT office is published the third list of the candidates those who have paid the counseling fee and reserve their seats in the participating NLU’s.
  • The list of waitlisted candidates also be released against the dropped out candidates along with third allotment list.
  • The provisionally selected candidates have to submit the counseling fee in the given time period to reserve their seats.

Step 5: Publishing of fourth list of selected candidates:

  • The provisionally selected candidates are able to withdraw their seats within the prescribed time period. The authority has deducted the nominal fee of Rs. 10, 000/- from the submitted counseling fee.
  • After the last date, no withdrawal from the admission process has been entertained.
  • The authority has published the fourth list of the candidates those have submitted their fee and reserved the seats.
  • The comprehensive list contains the names of the candidates those who have paid the counseling fee against the first, second and third indicative lists.
  • Candidates those names appear in the fourth list have to submit the full fee to the allotted NLU at the time of admission.

Step 6: Completion of admission formalities to the allotted NLUs:

  • After the candidates will finally allot the seats, they will have to report at the allotted NLU with the balance amount towards the admission and other fees.
  • The candidates will have to carry the relevant certificates/documents in original issued by the competent authority to complete their admission formalities.
  • The certificates in original will be checked by the respective universities at the time of their admission.
  • The candidates failing to meet the eligibility requirements will not be allowed to get admission in participating NLU.
  • The candidates seeking admission under various categories will be required to obtain the relevant and authentic certificates/documents from the competent authorities and produce them at the time of admission in the concerned NLU.
  • Candidates those will fail to report at the allotted NLU to complete the admission formalities will automatically lose their claim for admission and their entire amount of the counseling fee of Rs. 50,000/- will be forfeited.
