GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGE-(GECT),THRISSUR,OVERVIEW
Government Engineering College, is one among the most prestigious institutions in Kerala. It was set up in the year 1957 and affiliated to the University of Calicut and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University(KTU). The Government college campus is spread over an area of around 75 acres and situated at Ramavarmapuram. Besides the regular B-Tech course programs, the college also provides a Post-graduate Course in Computer Applications (MCA), and Postgraduate course programs in several subjects. The Government college is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), (COA) and programs are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The candidates seeking GEC admission in B.Tech need to appear in the national level entrance exam Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main)entrance. Admission process into the M.Tech course program is done through GATE
The college has around 47447.57 sq.m. of built-up area for both academic and administrative purposes and houses facilities for all arts, sports, and games. The Government college campus houses a separate library block, a central computing facility, a state of the art auditorium, hostel blocks for both male and female, facilities, food court, dispensary, bank, and a post office. The college is one of the topmost institutions in Kerala with regard to the placement opportunities by consistently offering near 100% placement during recent years.

The library has more than around 60,000 books and back volume Journals. The college is well equipped with Edusat Facility which is under MOU signed with the Indian Space Research Organization. Under this scheme, two channels of Edusat programs are received The college has almost four Hostel Blocks for Men and two Hostel Blocks for women students with capacity of over 690 and 160 respectively. There are around 4 Buses including one donated by the College PTA and a Jeep are on service to reduce the transport problems of students and staff of this institution A staff club is functioning to facilitate the improvement of the cultural and academic activities among the teaching staff of the college A full-fledged canteen is functioning within the campus for the convenience of the staff and students (Both Regular and Part-Time). Dispensary functions near the Hostel and its services are available to the students, staff, and family.
