The college is one of the five pioneers in Engineering education in the undergraduate level in Kerala state since 1961, this Government Aided institution is established, owned and managed by the Mar Athanasius College Association. Mar Athanasius College is constituted as a Society registered under the Cochin Registration.The Mae Athanasius Institution is the second venture of this charitable society. It is the first being the Arts and science college founded in the year 1955. The Association has Mar Athanasius International School as a third venture to its credit. The great educational visionary, late Prof. M P Varghese has been at the reins in this victory procession right from the time of founding till today. The institution consisting of representatives of the All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE), the State Government, Mahatma Gandhi University and Mar Athanasius College Association.
Mar Athanasius College of education is in the central Kerala in the year 1961. It is Managed by Mar Athanasius College Association. It is Aided by the Government of Kerala. This college was first in Asia under Christian Management. It is the first engineering college to get affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University. MACE, as it is popularly called, has grown by leaps and bounds since. It is now has six full fledged departments apart from the two auxiliary departments of Mathematics and Humanities and Science.

The campus is spread over an area of 25.3 hectares of land. The built-up area is almost around 12765.51 sq.m. A large area of 14036.7 sq.m. is being occupied by the workshops and laboratories. The several playgrounds take up an area of around 20000 sq.m. Mentioned below are the facilities that students can enjoy in the college:
Library: The MACE college has a well-furnished digital library that looks after the requirements of the students. It has a collection of more than around 75000 books with the latest periodicals, journals and technical papers. The library subscribes to various dailies besides other informative magazines.
Digital Classroom: The institute uses digitalized teaching methodology video programs in the area of higher education research.
Hostel: MACE has the facility for with separate buildings. Boys hostel can accommodate more than over 200 students whereas the hostel for girls has 350 intakes.
Extracurricular facility: The MACE campus is well equipped with facilities for arts and cultural events. The main auditorium has a capacity for 500 audiences in a floor area of around 400m2. Important functions and meetings of young students are organized there. An open-air theatre is situated at the heart of the campus. It has an audience capacity of over 1500 and spread over an area of 2000m2. An indoor stadium is also available with a capacity of more than over 3000 audiences for conducting cultural and sports events.

The University provides Scholarship facility to all the young students.
Scholarships are available to the full-time study at the University for Indian nationals only. Each year the University awards various scholarships in the form of fee remission to outstanding students. These scholarships of positive inclusive effort vary in value and have several criteria on which they are awarded.
