Govt. Polytechnic College, Cherthala is the 1st Professional Engineering Institution of excellence under Govt. Sector in Alappuzha at Kerala state. Govt. Polytechnic College, Cherthala is a premier Technical Education center in Kerala focusing more in the rural public. Even though the institution situated in the heart of Cherthala town, beside the national highway, it is surrounded by lot of villages, which are backward. This institution is treats as a Nodal Polytechnic for the other Polytechnic institutes in the Alappuzha District.
This institution beguned functioning as Junior Technical School in the year 1959 and was later upgraded as Technical High School. In the year 1994 it was upgraded to Polytechnic College, Imparting 3 year diploma course in Engineering or Technology under Department of Technical Education, Govt. of Kerala. Later Govt. of Kerala has sanctioned 2 more Diploma courses in Engineering Technology.

The college provides the following facilities to the candidates-
Library: The college has well-equipped the library with a moderate collection of 7600 books and the Informative Journals and Periodical section is also working under the Library. There is a separate reference department working under the library and library digitization works are under going.
Common Computer Lab: The computer lab is for candidates to be proficient in modern computer knowledge and practices. Candidates can access the computer lab to study their course subjects and other curricula. Candidates are free to use the Common Computer Lab to study new things.
Canteen: The canteen is well designed for the candidates and college staff. The canteen always gives hygienic and delicious food. The canteen is a beautiful place to relax and have a good meal with all freshness and clean less.
Auditorium: The Auditorium is the center for lot of cultural and academic activities. It has a seating capacity of 350 people. It has 1 large stage and 2 green rooms.
Co-operative Society: The co-operative society is controlled by staff from the college. Here candidates can find the stationery requirements, various kinds of books. All institute requirements like uniforms etc.
