Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science, Chennai is popularly known as Hindustan University is one of the leading educational institutions in Tamil Nadu. Hindustan College of Engineering was established in the year 1985 and granted “University Status” by UGC, Government of India, under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 in 2008-09.

The Institute has a modern infrastructure with six seminar halls which are fully air-conditioned and well equipped for seminars and presentations. There is an ultra-modern air-conditioned lecture theatre with a seating capacity for 650 members. It is the venue for various International, National Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, TEDx events, International and National competitions such as Quiz, Debates, Young Scientist Award Events etc.

Hindustan Institute of Science & Technology has separate hostels for boys and girls with well-furnished rooms and modern amenities. The overall atmosphere is very conducive for the students to concentrate on their studies. The hostels have well-furnished air-conditioned and regular rooms with attached restrooms providing the right ambience for the students.

State-of-the-art kitchen and spacious dining area have been provided for both the hostels and a customized menu cater to the student’s needs. Hygiene and cleanliness is emphasized in the hostel. 

The Hindustan University Library system consists of a Central Library and Departmental Libraries which collectively support the teaching, research and extension programmes of the Institute.

All students, faculty members and employees of the Institute are entitled to use the Library facilities enrolling membership. Besides, the Library has a huge collection of books on Engineering, Science and Humanities through its various divisions.

All Buildings are connected with Optical Fibre with Single and Multimode covering a distance of around 2000 metres.  Labs, Staff rooms and Offices are connected with LAN and Internet.

Admission to Undergraduate Programmes is based on +2 / other Qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). Admissions are open for Foreign Nationals / Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) / Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) under Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme.

 Admission to postgraduate Programmes is based on the scores in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).  Hindustan University announces its cut off & merit list for various courses to get admission in UG & PG programs every year. Cut off will be determined based on the reservation categories and the availability of the seats. The admissions are through the Centralized Counseling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan.

Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science organizes Personality Development Workshops in the University for all enrolled students with a view to equip them with the necessary soft skills required to emerge successfully in today’s competitive world. The students are given intensive training for acquiring Communication, Motivation and Leadership Skills with essential inputs in goal setting and team building. They also undergo Case Study Analysis, Extempore, Group Discussion and Personal Interview Session. More than two thousand students of pre-final and final year undergraduate and postgraduate programs are benefited from these workshops every year. The University considers training and placement as its key duties to every student who enrols with the University.

The Placement Office of the University provides equal opportunity to all enrolled students to attend campus interviews conducted for leading companies, do In-Plant Training and prepare the students to excel in Aptitude Test, Group Discussions and Interviews.
