Academy of Maritime Education and Training University (AMETU), Chennai is India’s first Maritime Deemed to be University imparting maritime-related education, training and research. Academy of Maritime Education and Training University, AMETU, Chennai was started in the year 1993 with just 15 cadets at the beginning. AMET has been conferred with Deemed University Status in 2007 by University Grants Commission.
The University aims to be a global leader in Maritime Education and to empower learners with wholesome knowledge through progressive innovation in training, research and development. Providing a unique learning experience, it aspires to be a Centre of Excellence in skill development in emerging technologies in accordance with industrial trends. AMET has been approved by Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) for conducting Marine Engineering and Nautical Science Courses. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved the technical programmes (Engineering, Technology and Management) of AMET.
The Academy is the only University from India to be a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities. AMET collaborates with universities and academies in India and abroad for some of its courses.

Academy of Maritime Education and Training
University has a modern infrastructure with smart class rooms and
laboratories. The University
has an Automated Library with wide collection of Books and Periodicals on
Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Management Studies, Information
Technology, Marine Biotechnology, Naval Architecture, Harbour Engineering,
Petroleum Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and others. There
are also Dissertations, Back Volumes, Projects and e-journal facilities, etc.
Apart from a library, the University has a
computer lab with the latest set of computers along with a steady internet
connection and 24/7 printers attached.
An Educational Materials Resource Development Centre (EMRDC) set up by the University facilitates the Faculty members to create video lectures and other E contents to be uploaded in the University Learning Management System.
The University encourages the students to participate in sports and games to stay fit and healthy. The facilities include courts for football, basket ball, tennis, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Badminton and athletics track and those for indoor games. A swimming pool and a gym are added facilities.

The candidate should have passed in Plus-two (12th Standard) or its equivalent, with minimum 59% aggregate in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry group and at least 50% marks in English to be eligible B. E. Courses.
Candidates who have passed 3 years Diploma Course can join 2nd year of 4-Year Marine Engineering Degree Course in addition to Mechanical/ Electrical /Electrical & Electronics Engineering from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 60% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma Course.

Many top recruiting companies like Maersk, Shell, Selandia, Fleet, DHL, Transworld, Beta, and HCL hire the candidates from the University. The University has a Placement Department co-coordinating with the companies for the on-campus placement and tracks the progress of passed out students.
Maersk Line is a bulk recruiter from this college throughout. Most of the multinational companies include CHEVRON, SEA TEAM, GOOD WOOD, SHELl which are shipping Giants.

The students have access to the Wi-Fi facility both inside the hostel and on the campus premises. There is a gym to make you fit, and there are a football court, volleyball court and badminton court to spend the evening great and memorable. The students have a great memory of yhe college life to cherish after passing.
The infrastructure, medical facilities, sports, canteen and CCD, are available all the time. A duty officer is available for any problem or any help. The mess is also good. Boys and girls have different mess rooms, which is good.
Faculty members are well experienced and skilled. So, they are very helpful too and they always try to provide knowledge according to MMD pattern. They are very good.
