About Institute of Road and Transport Technology – [IRTTECH], Erode

The Institute Of Road and Transport Technology (IRTT), Erode established in 1984 is run by All Transport Corporations of Government of Tamil Nadu. It started functioning as an automobile research oriented institute under the institute of Road Transport(IRT),Taramani, Chennai and the State Transport Undertakings(STUs).

The Institute is committed to provide quality engineering education, faster research, evolve innovative applications of technology and encourage entrepreneurship. It aspires to mould the students as professionals with social responsibility, and cultural awareness. It will impart value based quality education, sound knowledge, intellectual skills, good character and innovative ideas to develop as potential leaders.

The Institute offers 7 Under Graduate Degree courses in Engineering in various disciplines and 3 post graduate courses, M.E Structural Engineering, M.E Computer Science & Engineering and Master of Computer Applications. 

The Institute was initially affiliated to Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore and presently, it is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. The institute has been designated as a Zonal Center by the University from 2008-09.

The Governing Council of the Institute is headed by the Principal Secretary to Government of Tamil Nadu, Transport Department, Secretariat, Chennai.

IRTT takes pride in having established Industry-Institute partnership (IIP) Cell which offers courses on the latest developments in Engineering and Technology (on-campus and off-campus) imparting in-plant training to students and faculty at industries.

The Institute is located in a sprawling campus of 350 acre between Chithode and Bhavani in Erode District.  The Institute has excellent infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories and highly qualified faculty members. 

The Institute has an auditorium with wide corridor space, good natural lighting and ventilation and providing for High Sound Effects and free WiFi access. It has a capacity of 1000 seats. Besides there is an open air auditorium with 500 seats capacity.

The central library of the Institute houses 9555 books with 6500 titles and is widely used by the students and staff for information. Document delivery and Reprographic facilities are also offered by the Library. The Institute is also to initiate action to establish a Digital Knowledge Centre for a wider access to the information resources of various libraries and information services both internal and external.

The Institute accommodates the students in comfortable hostel with all the facilities. There is also a guest house.

A Canteen serving both Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian food functions inside the campus. Different menus to the liking of the Faculty and Students are followed everyday.

The students can avail of transport assistance offered to all parts of the city and in the district of Erode with the help of college bus and governments buses.

The Institute of Road and Transport Technology (IRTT) provides both outdoor and indoor games facilities for both Boys and Girls. The college owns an excellent infrastructure for sports and games with one of the best athletic grounds.

Medical facility for the students is provided in IRTT own hospital with male and female doctors and paramedical services. A first aid centre operates within the hostel. Besides, there is an exclusive gymnasium inside the hostel under the care of qualified physical education instructors.

For admission to B.E. Degree programmes, a pass in HSC or its equivalent with the minimum average percentage in the relevant subjects or a pass in any one of the HSC (Vocational Stream) prescribed for B.E Degree admissions or any other equivalent qualification approved by the State Board of Technical Education and Training / Higher Secondary Board of Tamilnadu / Anna University for Engineering Admissions is required.

Qualifying Examinations Marks (Maths – 100 marks, Physics + Chemistry- 100 marks) Total – 200 marks Cut off marks = 200 marks.

The eligibility for Post Graduate Programme is B.E./B.Tech in the relevant field with a minimum of 50 %.

 A separate placement section is functioning to arrange for campus interviews and other placement activities under Mechanical Engineering Department. Every Year above 90% of students are placed in various companies. The Placement section organizes various programmes for improving the skills of the students and conducts various coaching classes and mock interviews for the the placement interviews take place.

The Cell maintaining a rich alumni database co-ordinates efforts between students and faculty from all departments with respect to all placement activities. Various reputed companies visit the campus frequently to recruit qualified caliber engineers. In plant training and industrial visits are arranged by the placement cell to strengthen the Industry – Institute relationship.
