About Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology – [CIPET], Chennai
Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) (formerly known as Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET)) was established at Chennai in 1968 by Government of India with the assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This specialized institute aims to develop manpower in different disciplines of Plastics Engineering & Technology.
The Vision of Institute is become an apex Institute of International repute in the field of Polymer Science & Technology and ensure sustainable growth by offering a blend of specialized Academic and Skill Development Training Programs in the field of Polymer Science & Technology.
Currently, CIPET is a premier Academic institution for higher & technical education and research under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India in the field of polymer science & technology It imparts training in Design, CAD/CAM/CAE, Tooling & Mould Manufacturing, Production Engineering, Testing and Quality Assurance. CIPET operates from different campuses spread across the country to cater to the needs of the Polymer and allied industries.
The Institute has evolved through the years, establishing ties with industries for innovative plastic-based solutions which are resource-efficient and marketable.
The Institute has now 37 campuses and 5 more are in the process of Establishment. Every campus has State-of-art facilities In-line with the ever-changing & challenging needs of the plastic industries, and the Institute continuously upgrades and modernizes machinery, equipment and technology.

The campus of Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology is located at Guindy Industrial Estate – one of the industrial hubs of the Chennai City. The campus is well connected by all means of transport with the nearest Airports viz; Kamaraj Domestic Airport and Anna International Airport at a distance of 10 km from the campus. The nearest suburban railway station i.e. Guindy is connected with Madras Central Railway station.
The centre has state-of-the-art laboratories, classrooms, various departments, library, cafeteria, hostel, etc. Seven spacious and well-ventilated classrooms are available for theory classes on the campus. Projectors are available in most of the Classrooms than help the faculty to teach with presentations and videos for better clarity of the subjects.
Well equipped labs are available on different subjects to assist in education: Computer Laboratory.
The Plastics Testing Centre (PTC) of CIPET – Chennai is a NABL accredited laboratory, equipped with state of the art equipment and testing facilities and is recognized as one of the best testing laboratories in Asia. It renders technical services to plastics industries and several Central & State government organizations
Digital library of the Institute has 30 terminals and two servers which are connected with high speed 100 Mbps dedicated internet. Information is accessed by the user community through intranet as well as the internet. Digital Library has NPTEL Videos for the use of the patrons.
Hostel facilities are available separately for outstation students, boys and girls near the campus. Power backup, Continuous water supply and round the clock security are available in the hostels.
Other amenities include a modern air-conditioned cafeteria with a seating capacity of 250, availability of a doctor in the campus to attend to the urgent medical needs of the students and staff members and Wi-Fi connectivity at selected locations of the campus including the hostel.
The students are exposed to various technical and cultural events during their course tenure. In the Annual Sports Meet organized every year, students and staff take part in various events like running, long jump shot put throw, throwball, etc Many students have excelled in regional sports activities and have brought laurels to the institution by bagging medals at Anna Universities inter zonal and national level sports events.

The College infrastructure is excellent compared to other colleges. The college also provides a digital library for students who are seeking more knowledge. The classrooms are equipped with a projector, and all the classrooms are air-conditioned.
The College hostel is Wi-Fi enabled and sanitized on a daily basis. Food quality is better from any other college hostel canteens. Medical facilities are also available here for the College hostel students in any emergency. Many sports activities are conducted within the college campus, such as indoor and outdoor, and there is a massive ground where the College conducts sports competitions.
The teachers are well-qualified for this job. They are central government employees, and their processes of selection are based on their qualification and knowledge. The teaching quality is awesome.
