RMD Engineering College at Kavaripettai in Thiruvallur in Tamil Nadu was established in 2001 by Sri Swaminatha Naidu Educational Trust. The College is located about 35 km from Chennai in the National Highway NH5 in the Chennai – Nellore-Kolkata Highway.
RMDEC aspires to be a premier institution offering quality technical education and research with application expertise in Engineering and Technology. The college has excellent infrastructure facilities spread across 26.2 acres of lush green environment including adequate class rooms, tutorial rooms, laboratories, seminar halls for respective departments and Library & sports facilities.
Academic infrastructure consists of buildings for Instructional Area, Laboratories, Library and Computer Centre as well as equipments Hardware & Software in the Computer Centre and other computing facilities, Audio-visual equipment &books and Educational CDs. All the individual departments have adequate number of LCD projectors and OHPs..
R.M.D. Engineering college computer centre with 640 computers is fully air conditioned and provides computing facilities to the students and staff through well-equipped labs. The centre has established a campus-wide network using a fibre optic backbone with a capacity of 1GB that connects all the academic departments, library and other central facilities
The college central library located in the new block contains 60010 volumes of books and 14199 titles. The Library subscribes to 66 national Journals, 6 leading international E-journals and E-books database, 60 Magazines, 10 News Papers, 1691 back volumes of journals and 6649 CD ROMs. The Library Services are automated through the use of standard library software package called “AutoLib 5.2 version”.
The College encourages the talented students to make sincere effort to achieve the higher distinction in sports at Zone, Inter Zone, All India Inter University, TIES, Invitational Tournaments, State, and National/International levels by providing them the best available inputs in terms of equipment, coaching, training, etc.
The Department of Physical Education and Sports of the college provides facilities for sports activities namely Athletics, Chess, Carrom, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Ball Badminton, Hand Ball, Football, Throw ball, Netball, Rollball, Sepaktakraw, Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, Best Physique, Cricket, Cross Country, Power Lifting, Table Tennis, Weight Lifting, Kabaddi, etc.
College also provides state-of-art multi gymnasiums for the use of students.
Hostel Facilities are provided separately for boys and girls with 2 hostels for the boys and one hostel for girls. The boy’s hostel has separate library, reading room, shuttle courts and a stores (shop) while the girl’s hostel has Shuttle courts, Table tennis and a shop. The hostel blocks also have land line phone with STD facility and free Wi-Fi connectivity. Four dining halls housed in two buildings serve hygienic and nutritive food to the students.
Both the hostels have gymnasium with state-of-the-art equipment. The Girls Hostel has a full-fledged air conditioned Beauty Parlor attached to it.
The College has a fleet of 80 buses, 15 vans and cars for transportation of the students and staff from Chennai to college and back.
The Institution also has a clinic with the full time doctor and a dispensary with two beds.
