Central University of Tamil Nadu is a government educational Institution which was established in the year 2009 along with eight other central universities through an act of parliament. The main idea of the central university is to offer good quality education to those individuals who belong to the weaker section of the society. Central university started its functioning on November 2009 in the historic city called Thiruvarur. CUTN provides a wide variety of course programs to the students and the entire university covers a number of 1650 students. CUTN Admission is done through a common entrance test which enables the students who reside in any part of the country to appear and it’s purely done on merit basis.
Central University Thiruvarur provides Undergraduate course programs, Postgraduate and Doctoral courses. Madras School of Economics and Tata Institute of Fundamental Science gives support to CUTN in running the Economics and Social Work programmes. Water Management, ParaLegal degree Courses are provided by Community College which works under CUTN. The centre is a gateway to the entire CUTN community to arise,awaken CUTN’s to develop and enhance the wellbeing for themselves and in the meantime for the society.
The main vision of Central University of Tamil Nadu is to become a global destination for higher education, seeking transformation in good knowledge and scholarship and the main mission of CUTN is to make their contribution for the local community and extension programmes. CUTN provides admission for foreign nationals and NRI Students without appearing the Common Entrance Tests (CuCET) for admission but they have to pass in the equivalent qualifying examination from an Indian/ foreign University. CUTN offers best excellent infrastructure facilities to the students and faculties with wifi enabled campus, Health care, Transportation facilities and many more.

Central Library:
Central library offers 28,500 books to the students in several subjects and 114 CDs/DVDs and 200 printed journals.
The whole library is fully air-conditioned and it becomes an ideal place for best knowledge creation and learning for the students
The whole library can accommodate a number of over 100 users at a time.
Campus Wifi:
A high-speed wifi is available inside the campus.
Wifi can be accessed by all the students, anywhere in the Campus.
Health Care:
A separate health care clinic is available inside the campus
Health clinic has all the basic equipments for an emergency occurs.
The health care has a 24/7 fully well equipped ambulance and pharmacy services.
Sports Facilities:
CUTN promotes sports in the campus.
Students can spent their times in the playground by playing various games like basketball,volleyball,Cricket and other sporting activities in the campus.

Separate mess facilities for both men and women.

Transportation Facilities:

The University offers various scholarships in the given following categories:
Students those who hail from the SC/ST/OBC quota are eligible to get a scholarship. If they secure a 75% score of marks in their Higher Secondary Examination.
Students who hail from the Minority communities get a scholarship if they secure a 75% score of marks in their Higher Secondary Examination.
Students who hail from an economically low background are the ones eligible for a scholarship by the University.
Students whose parent serves or those who served in the military are eligible for a scholarship.
The University sponsors a scholarship in the sports quota.
The University sponsors a scholarship to candidates who are Physically Challenged.
