ABOUT COCHIN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, KOCHI, KERALA
The University of Cochin, established in 1971 was reorganised as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in 1986 by the Cochin University of Science and Technology Act, 1986. It aims at the “development of higher education with particular emphasis on post-graduate studies and research in applied science, technology, industry and commerce”. Specialisations are available in all Faculties/Departments for higher studies and research. By giving recognition to several well-established premier research institutions in the country and the Southern Naval Command of Indian Navy, the University has brought within its fold the resources available in these institutions for the use of the academic community.
The faculties of the University are Engineering, Technology, Environmental Studies, Humanities, Law, Marine Sciences. Medical Science and Technology, Sciences and Social Sciences. With over 249 faculty members, the University is home to about 7000 students including about 1124 Ph.D Students. It organizes Under Graduate, Post Graduate, M. Phil and PhD Programmes.
The Chairman of the University is the Governor of Kerala and the Kerala Minister for Higher Education is the Pro chancellor. The University administration is carried out by the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor under the directions of the Syndicate and Senate of the University.
The main campus is located at Thrikkakara in Ernakulam District, housing various
departments and Schools. The downtown campus is located on
the shores of Lake Vembanad. Pulinkunnu

Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, Kerala – Facilities
The main campus is situated at Thrikkakara in about 180 acres of green landscape. The campus houses various departments and schools except for marine services as well as administrative office, hostels, guest house, visiting faculty complexes, computer centre, central library, staff quarters and other amenities.
The lakeside campus is located on the shores of Vembanad, housing the departments and schools of Faculty of Marine Sciences and men’s hostel. The Pulikannu campus is located in Kuttunad, Alleppey and is home to Cochin University College of Engineering, Kuttunad.
Cochin University library is fully automated and is located centrally on the campus, the resources of which are available to all the departments. It has a huge collection of over 95,000 books including reference books, doctoral theses, back-volumes of periodicals, patents, CDROM’s, etc. The library also facilitates access to a number of electronic journals through the internet.
The hostel accommodation is available for undergraduate, postgraduate and research students, separately for ladies and men. The University encourages various extracurricular activities including fine arts, socio-cultural and literary events, apart from workshops, exhibitions, etc. The university is also promoting sports activities aiming at physical fitness and participation in inter-university tournaments.
