Amrita School of Pharmacy in Kochi, Kerala is a constituent of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and is the first to start functioning among the schools under Health Sciences campus. Located in the vibrant city of Kochi, Kerala, Amrita School of Pharmacy offers training for one of the most sought after professional courses. The School’s commitment to excellence in healthcare is in line with the overall objective of the Kochi – based Health Sciences campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

Established in 1997 as a Centre of Excellence in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the School’s location in the Kochi campus makes it ideally situated to offer high-quality infrastructure for training and research in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The School aims at being a centre of excellence ensuring high-quality value-based education with an international focus and unwavering commitment to provide quality teaching and innovative research to students from all sections of society paving the way for socio-economic development of the nation.

The goal of the Amrita School of Pharmacy is not only to excel in the field of education but also to conduct social and charitable outreach programs and to develop highly competent Pharmacy Professionals.

The School offers Undergraduate (B. Pharm.), Postgraduate (Pharm. D. (Post Baccalaureate) and M. Pharm) and Ph. D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The School gives much emphasis for research, right from the undergraduate level. Research programs are focused on a wide range of areas including drug discovery, novel drug delivery systems, toxicology/ pharmacology, analytical method development, preclinical and herbal research, research on therapeutics, optimization of dosage regimen in healthcare delivery, pharmacokinetic evaluation, etc. Quality, innovative and value-based research is much encouraged in the school has started taking heights in research achievements.

The School also has programmes for phytochemists to do research on the isolation of molecules of herbal drugs as part of pharmacological studies, with phased clinical trials. A long-term goal is to train herbal pharmacists who can help bridge the gap between Allopathy and Ayurveda.

The School provides excellent clinical training for Pharm D students in all the major clinical specialities including Oncology, Cardiology, Stroke medicine, etc. in Amritha Hospital and opportunity to involve in research studies in the hospital and in various clinical pharmacy as well as interdisciplinary services.

Amrita School of Pharmacy, Kochi, Kerala – Course, Fees & Duration

The eligibility for B. Pharm and Pharm D courses is a pass in 10+2 examination or equivalent examinations with 50 % marks, conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala or Examinations equivalent thereto with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology as optional subjects individually. The candidate shall fulfil eligibility before the last date of application.

A candidate who has passed the B. Pharm Degree Examination of Kerala University of Health Sciences or an examination equivalent thereto of any other university recognized by the Kerala University of Health Sciences with not less than a total of 50% marks is eligible for admission to M. Pharm course.

The candidate should have undergone B. Pharm in an institution approved by AICTE & PCI. Candidates who have passed their B. Pharm course outside Kerala will be eligible for admission only if their qualifying examination is recognized by the Kerala University of Health Sciences on the date of application/allotment. The candidate shall fulfil eligibility before the last date of application.

The Amrita School of Pharmacy is housed in a self-contained calm and quiet four-storied building with a built-up area of about90,000 sq.ft.

Amrita School of Pharmacy, Kochi in Kerala has a well-stocked library with an online public access catalogue of databases materials to the students. Apart from this catalogue, the School of Pharmacy has an e-resource containing useful information such as magazines, newspapers, journal articles that the library provides via a computer or other device.

It has 13 laboratories, a full-fledged library and all other facilities for academic programmes, at UG, PG and research levels.

Besides the above, there is an Institutional repository of software packages used for creating open access repositories for scholarly and/or published digital content. EDS provides users with an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of an institution’s information resources through a single search.

Some other jobs available for the B.Pharm candidates are drug inspector, medical representatives, lectures etc. After B. Pharm, the candidates can go for M. Pharm or MBA. Teaching is a better choice. The students will get job openings in the government as well as the private sector.
