Kannur Goverment Polytechnic was established in the year 1958 with a view to create lot of chances for the educated peoples to technical training and hence to raise the pool of specially trained, employed technicians. In the beginning there were three year diploma courses in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Kannur is so known the looms and lores hence the three year diploma in Paper Technology and Textile Technology were beguned later in the year 1982. A new diploma courses on Electronics was beguned in the year 1987. At present there are 5 Diploma courses viz. Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Govt. Polytechnic College, Kannur is one of the most biggest Institution in Kannur District in kerala. The Govt. Polytechnic College, Kannur Provides hostel facility for boys.
