The Government Engineering College, Thiruvananthapuram, was established by the Government of Kerala, India, in August by the year 1999. The institution is situated in Barton Hill, which is two kilometres from the city centre in Trivandrum. The Government Engineering College has major 5 departments that includes Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical and Electronics, Civil and Electronics and Communication Engineering.Government Engineering College, Barton Hill was founded by the Government of Kerala in the academic year 1999-2000. Within a short period of twelve years, the college has achieved best notable academic excellence. The college is also listed to the University of Kerala. It is run under the administrative control of the Director of Technical Education, Kerala.
The college was founded in the month of November 1999 on the land donated by His Highness Sri.Chithira Thirunal, the ruling Maharaja of the State of Travancore. The college started its function of the Barton Hill Girl’s High School. The first principal of the college was Prof. G.Jayasankar and Dr. B Anil is the principal of the college now. The main vision of the college is National Level Excellence and International Visibility in every facet of Engineering Education.
