It was founded as a middle school in the year 1857 and upgraded to a high school in the year 1868. It was upgraded to a college in the year 1879. Maharajah’s College, or M. R. College, is one among the oldest colleges in India. Maharajah of Vizianagram. is NAAC assessed and accredited the institution with “B” grade. For the admission process, the student will have to appear for Entrance exam and based on the results, the student will be called for the admission. Graduation classes were started in the year 1881 which is under the patronage of Sri Pusapati Ananda Gajapati Raju.
The Rajah Saheb P. V. G. Raju gifted the Royal Palace to the college in the year 1948. The Maharajah Alak Narayan Society of Arts and Sciences came into existence in the year 1958. Dr. P. V. G. Raju died on 13 November 1995. His son Dr. Poosapati Ananda Gajapathi Raju has taken in-charge as Chairman . It is a Autonomous status which was conferred on the college in the year 1987. The Institution works to offer a complete, meaningful and relevant education to its young students which will enable them to be intellectually well trained, upright, socially aware and spiritually inspired to become one of the good citizens of the nation.
Osmania College,Kurnool
Osmania College, Kurnool was started in the year 1947 by a renowned philanthropist, Dr. M. Abdul Haq Saheb. It is a minority institution, recognized by UGC Act of 1956 and affiliated to Rayalaseema University, Kurnool(from the academic year 2010-2011). The college is situated on a campus of around 9.5 acres and provides degree courses in Arts, Humanities, Management and Computer Applications, Social Sciences, Sciences, Commerce, at the undergraduate level. M.A.(English ), M.Sc.(Physics),M.Sc.(Organic Chemistry), M.Com.(Professional), M.Sc.(Mathematics) and M.A. (Telugu) are the degree courses available at P.G. level. The Osmania college has the student strength of 2218(Men & Women) and the staff of 186 (Teaching 120 and Non-teaching 66).
The Osmania college was conferred with the autonomous status in the 2005. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC), Bangalore accredited the college with ‘A’ Grade for a period of five years (Institutional score between 85% and 90% with validity from 31.03.2007).
