Andhra University, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences,Visakhapatnam

Andhra University is one among the second institute in the country to start pharmacy course programs at University level in the year 1937. The pharmacy course program were initially provided in the B.Sc honours degree programs in chemical technology and as a specialisation at M.Sc. Chemical Technology level. The importance of pharmaceutical sciences led to the formation of a separate department in the year 1951, with the commencement of B.Pharm. course program with late Prof. S. Rangaswamy as founder Head of the Department. The M.Pharm course program was started in the year 1954. A separate Faculty members of Pharmaceutical Sciences was formed in the year 1975. The core department has been elevated as to be a constituent college of Andhra University in August 2006.

Currently, the department provides B.Pharm, Pharm-D, Pharm-D (PB) and M.Pharm an PhDD. course programmes in eight specialisations namely Pharmaceutical Technology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, and Phytochemistry, Practice and Pharmaceutical Management & Drug Regulatory affairs, Food Analysis, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy. The department has the distinction of being one among the first in the country to start pharmaceutical biotechnology division. Prof. S. Rangaswamy and founder faculty members laid solid foundations and moulded the department into one of among the best in the country.
