The B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), located at Dharan, Eastern Nepal was established in 1993. Later in 1998, it was upgraded as an autonomous Health Sciences University and is one of the topmost medical institutions for MBBS study in Nepal.

Academics
The MBBS course duration is 5½ years including one-year of compulsory community-oriented residential rotating internship. The University follows a holistic model of academics and services aiming at being a centre of excellence in patient care, teaching, and health sector research.
BPKIHS offers undergraduate, postgraduate, Masters in Public Health, Doctorate of Medicine and Fellowship Programmes. It has four colleges: Medical, Dental, Nursing, and Public Health with a 700-bedded Central Teaching Hospital. The medical college has well-established major clinical and basic science departments.
The teaching hospital of B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences is the B.P. Koirala Central Hospital. Moreover, its teaching district hospitals also contribute to providing clinical practice to the students. The Hospital owns 763 beds with an average number of 1000 outpatients who receive health services. BPKIHS also extends its teaching programs and their health services to Primary Health Care Centers, District Hospitals and Zonal Hospitals in different districts of the region.

Kathmandu University (KU) is an autonomous, not-for-profit, self-funding public institution established by an Act of Parliament in 1991. It is an institution of higher learning dedicated to maintaining an excellent academic standard in various professional disciplines.

Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) was established after the collaboration between Kathmandu University and Dhulikhel Hospital. KUSMS launched its own constituent MBBS program in August 2001. The School offers undergraduate and post-graduate-level courses in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Midwifery, etc. It is one of the best Medical Colleges in Nepal for MBBS Study.
Currently, almost 1500 students including foreign students are admitted every year in various undergraduate and postgraduate programs in nursing, dental, medical, physiotherapy and other disciplines.
The school has the infrastructure and physical facilities at two locations: basic science building with all the required facilities is situated at a hilltop at Chaukot in the Panauti area and the university hospital is situated at Dhulikhel, within a distance of 3 km.
The basic science department has different departments with the required number of laboratories, lecture halls including PBL classrooms and audiovisual facilities. Its well-stocked library functions with 24 hour Internet facility.
More than 1500 members of faculty and 10000 members of staff serve in the KUSMS. With twelve affiliated and extended colleges, KUSMS operates one of the largest tertiary level health systems in the country. The College also has collaborations with internationally reputed Universities for highly productive global engagement.
Student Life
KU has several hostels, two in the main premises, one for boys (200) and the other for girls (163) and one in Chaukot for Boys (50). Some private houses outside the university premises are taken on lease for use as a hostel for medical students. Priorities are given to the students from outside the locality.
Each hostel is secured by a guard and is provided with hot water, pantry, canteen, exercising machine, television and sports ground. All rooms are well furnished. International students are provided single accommodation at the guest house within the university premise.
The KU fast food offers a variety of local and continental dishes including Indian and Chinese. Besides, it serves tea, coffee, pastry, and a cold drink. It has both indoor and outdoor seating arrangements.
In each school of KU, a Student Welfare Council (SWC) is constituted through individual class representation. Each SWC is responsible for implementing and coordinating all the student activities in the respective schools.

The Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) is a public tertiary academic institution dedicated to training doctors and other health workers for rural Nepal. Established in 2008, PAHS is located in the city of Patan, Nepal, adjacent to the capital city of Kathmandu. The academy initially consisted of a School of Medicine (SoM), which began to teach prospective doctors in 2010. It is one of the topmost medical colleges in Nepal serving as a model of innovative medical education in a developing country.

Academics
The duration of MBBS course is 6 years unlike rest of the universities in Nepal..[PAHS is following a highly progressive modern curriculum used by a number of western medical schools. In 2017, PAHS started the Master’s Programme in Public Health under the School of Public Health. The medium of education is English.
The major teaching hospital for the Patan Academy of Health Sciences is Patan Hospital. The hospital uses state of art equipments and facilities to treat more than 320000 outpatients and 20000 inpatients every year. It has excellent study rooms and laboratories.
The students are also assigned to rural hospitals and health care centres throughout Nepal from the first year onwards to supplement their core training. The U. Tribhuvan University established in 1959 is the first national institution of higher education in Nepal. The University, a non-profit autonomous institution is located in Kirtipur, an ancient town situated five kilometres from the main Kathmandu Centre. In 2013, the Government of Nepal declared it as a Central University. The University is one of the topmost institutions for MBBS study in Nepal, is a preferred destination for Indian students to study MBBS.

Tribhuvan University of Nepal is recognized by MCI, WHO and UNESCO. The medical degree from Tribhuvan University of Nepal is also valid in other countries after clearing the respective screening tests of the countries.

The University is funded by the Government of Nepal. Institute of Medicine of Tribhuvan University has 15 affiliated health science colleges, which are implementing different undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs in clinical and non-clinical health science. In the seven affiliated medical colleges under the University, every year 700 students are admitted in MBBS.
The MBBS course is for five and a half years, with the initial years covering theory and basics of medicine and clinical study. During the last year of the Course, the internship program is mandated.
