In February 1986, the University of Cochin was renamed as Cochin University of Science and Technology [CUSAT], with the specific purpose of development of higher education with particular importance on postgraduate studies and research in applied science, technology, industry and commerce, and business.It is recognized by the UGC and AICTE. It has also received Grade ‘A’ by the NAAC. The Cochin University of Science and Technology Admission brings together students from all over the country for the high quality of education. It serves as a center for fostering co-operation and exchange of ideas between the academic and research community on the one hand and industry on the other.
It provides specializations in all departments for higher studies and research. The CUSAT courses consist of 14 undergraduates, 53 postgraduate, 9 M.Phil and Ph.D. courses. The University can be considered the ideal knowledge hub through its various methods of instruction, training, research, development, and extension. Admission process in UG courses at Cochin University is based on the minimum qualifying marks in 10+2 examination and marks in CUSAT Common Admission exam. In order to be eligible for PG courses at CUSAT, students need to have good academic records in graduation to get admission. Selection in PG courses will be based on the scores of several entrance examinations.

Cochin University has the main campus and the lakeside campus. The main campus is situated over 105 km away from the National Highway 47 in South Kalamasser. The lakeside campus is over 12 km from the main campus. It is set in Cochin city on waterfront. Cochin University has one more campus named as Pulincunno Campus which is located in Kuttanad, Alappuzha District is 65 km from the main campus.
Cochin University has a library. The library is fully automated and one among the best scientific and good technical libraries in the country. The KOHA FOSS package, is a user-friendly library management software all in-house projects of the library is placed here.
CUSAT offers the banking facilities to the students and to the faculty members. The CUSAT university also has the best physical education department on the campus. Cochin University encourages the young students to take part in both indoor and outdoor games.
Cochin University also has a canteen. They prepare well nutrition, healthy foods in the hygienic mess. The canteen starts from 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM including the Saturdays.
