Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad was established in 2012 has been set up by the invitation of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India recognised the Institute as a Deemed University. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded a five-Star rating to TISS. The institute has been managed by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. TISS Hyderabad commenced operating from an interim space in the AMR-Andhra Pradesh Academy for Rural Development (APARD) campus in Rajendranagar by providing a certificate course in Rural Development and Decentralized Planning for Government and NGO development functionaries.
TISS, Hyderabad also commenced with 5 Year Integrated Masters Program, MA Rural Development and Governance; M. Phil & Ph. D programs. The vision of TISS is to be an establishment of excellence in higher education and regularly respond to the changing social realities through the event and application of knowledge, towards making a people-centered, ecologically sustainable and just society that promotes and protects equality, dignity, social justice and human rights for all.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has the following facilities for the students:
Library: With over 4000 books, TISS Hyderabad has one of the well-equipped libraries. The collection consists of books related to Sociology, History, Women’s Studies, Literature and Development, Philosophy and many more. Addition with that, the institute has initiated the process of collaborating with educational institution or other universities to share library resources.
Campus Doctor: The facility is attainable to all on designated days and timings.
Hostels: Separate hostel is available for both boys and girls. The facility is, however, controlled due to limited capacity but the rooms are well-equipped with basic amenities and 24/7 security.
IT Services: Computer facilities are provided to the candidates in both classes and hostels as well. Candidates are allotted with login and password to access the network.
