Chennai Mathematical Institute is an autonomous college started in the year 1989. It is a part of the SPIC Science Foundation and is a centre of best excellence for teaching and research in the mathematical sciences, the institute was moved into its new campus for about 5 acres of land at the SIPCOT Information Technology Park in Siruseri in the year October 2005.
CMI is managed by eminent persons of Governing Council, and is recognized as a university under the UGC Act 1956 and will henceforth award PhD degrees directly.
The areas of research at CMI are Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics. In addition to PhD programme, the institute conducts B.Sc programmes in Mathematics and Computer Science,Physics, along with MSc programmes in Mathematics, Applications of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Hostel: The college offers residential facilities to both male and female students. The fees for mess and hostel need to be given at the starting of each semester. At present, the charges are Rs. 23,8000 per semester.

All the candidates receive handsome scholarships that meet all expenses. B.Sc. (Hons.) students will get a scholarship of about Rs. 4000 per month
M.Sc. students receive a scholarship of around Rs. 6000 per month and Ph.D. scholarships start at Rs. 16000 per month
Students of B.Sc. (Hons.) also, get an additional monthly scholarship of over Rs. 1000, made possible through generous private donations.
