Vellore Institute of Technology, a private university located in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, was established in 1984, as Vellore Engineering College with the aim of providing quality higher education on par with international standards. Its vision is to transform life through excellence in education and research. The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development conferred University status on Vellore Engineering College in 2001. The Institute is recognized as an Institution of Eminence by Govt. of India.

VIT Group of Institutions offer 51 Undergraduate, 33 Postgraduate, 11 Integrated, 2 Researchprogrammes and 2 M. Tech Industrial Programmes. In addition, full-time Ph.D. in Engineering and Management disciplines, Ph.D. in Science and Languages and Integrated Ph.D. programmes in engineering disciplines are offered.

VIT campus is spread across 372 acres has state-of-the-art infrastructure provided for both students and faculty. Every Department fully furnished and well-equipped labs.

The well-planned and comprehensive premises of VIT have seven academic blocks which are extremely specialized in their own particular field marking maximum utilisation of the 372 acre campus. Every block is equipped with the necessary amenities providing the perfect atmosphere for both studies and research.

The smart and spacious classrooms are well designed with everything needed for a pleasant learning atmosphere. The classrooms contain a white board and a projector that is used for teaching, making the learning process easy and simple. These classrooms are also used for seminars and events from time to time.

A wide choice of modern conference facilities has been meticulously planned and incorporated into the VIT campus. These include 4 auditoriums of seating capacities ranging from 128 to 1800 and a Multi-purpose Hall with a capacity of 462 seats.

The Central library of the Institute has 2,40,802 specialized books, and 412 journals & other resources in Mathematics & Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Biotechnology, Humanities, Social Sciences and Management ranging from printed books, e-books, back volumes and CDs\DVDs. The Library also subscribes to national and international journals in print and e-Journals. The library has a video conferencing facility and NPTEL video courses, ePGpathashala, Swayam Programme and other E-Learning resources initiated by the Government of India.

The IT infrastructure of the Institute is spread across 56 buildings with very high-speed robust network built on CISCO switching platform with backbone running on 10Gig at present. 12000+ IP enabled devices are connected to this fast network. Internet bandwidth of 10Gbps is made available through three major Internet service providers. Centre for Technical Support (CTS) maintains the policies governing the use of VIT computing and IT communication resources.

Emphasizing the importance of sports for maintaining fitness and to develop a competitive spirit, VIT considers them as an integral part of the curriculum. VIT has a number of centres for physical education and the students are actively encouraged to participate in sports activities.  The various outdoor playgrounds and indoor courts are spread over a 20-acre area.

Three fully equipped multi cuisine canteens are operating at three strategic locations in college. All the three canteens are run on contract basis with external caterers and provide quality food at student friendly prices. They serve a wide array of cuisines and dishes with no compromise on the quality.

There are separate hostels for men and women in the Institute.   Total number of students in hostels is over 21,000. Using clean and sterilized cooking vessels and employing mechanized of food preparation, clean and healthy food is served in hostel dining halls with modern furniture.

Candidates applying for UG Engineering admission should have either completed or shall be appearing in 2021, in any one of the following qualifying examinations:

• The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi), The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), New Delhi.
• Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
• High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
• General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Srilanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

Candidates applying for the Undergraduate Engineering admission in 2021 should have secured minimum aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate) and minimum aggregate of 50% for Candidates belonging to SC/ST and and Candidates hailing from Jammu and Kashmir/ Ladakh and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. Certificate to prove community / nativity should be produced.

Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st July 1999 are eligible to apply for UG Engineering admission (UGEA) 2021.

The eligibility for M. Tech programmes is 60 % marks in the B. Tech examination of relevant discipline.

Admission to Undergraduate Programmes is based on +2 / other Qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). Admissions are open for Foreign Nationals / Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) / Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) under Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme.

 Admission to postgraduate Programmes is based on the scores in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). 

VIT announces cut off & merit list for various courses to get admission in UG & PG programs every year. Cut off will be determined based on the reservation categories and the seats availability. The admissions are through the Centralized Counseling for M.Tech./M.Arch.

More than 700 companies visited the campus for placements In 2019-20 alone.  The highest offer made was 41.6 lakhs per annum by Microsoft. The classrooms are modern and well-equipped with projectors for enhanced learning and better understanding. The library is a heaven for the students which are filled with the latest books, journals, guides, and all the necessary guides.

The hostels are pretty good as compared to other colleges in India along with an awesome mess that provides some delicious delicacies. The teachers are well-qualified with exceptional teaching skills and have great teaching etiquettes to make the courses more interesting.

Almost all the teachers have a Ph.D showcasing their in-depth knowledge of that specific subject(s). All in all, the faculty members are very skilled in teaching and motivate the students to perform better.

The Institute has best lab facility among private college or Government College. It provides a better opportunity for exploring aerospace engineering through their good development labs.
