What is BSc. Respiratory Care Technology?

BSc. Respiratory Care technology or Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy is an undergraduate (UG) level course program. The 3-year course program that mainly focuses on the branch of study that specializes students in the application of technology in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary disease and related conditions. Respiratory care technologists work with various healthcare professionals to treat and care for patients with breathing problems and other cardiopulmonary issues and disorders. They perform diagnostic tests and limited physical examination. Respiratory course curriculum has coursework that includes all the aspects of functioning and treatment of the heart and the lungs. In addition with training in advanced and applied respiratory technology, the course generally includes topics like Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology and many more subjects etc. Respiratory care technologist are employed in hospitals in the Emergency Departments, intensive care units, and work in sleeping labs and in Pulmonary Functioning laboratories. Respiratory care technologist can also work as trainers or professors in many areas of health studies or institutes including cardiology, pulmonology, and sleep care therapy.

    Respiratory care technologists provide direct care, educate patients, and are responsible for care coordination. They are trained in administering respiratory medicines to patients and respiratory nursing. They practice in exact care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, provided living centres, rehabilitation centres, diagnostics units, and even at homes.

BSc. Respiratory Care Technology: Duration

Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care Technology or B.Sc. Respiratory Care Technology is an undergraduate (UG) level course program which introduces students to the fundamentals of respiratory care. It is a 3 years course program which is divided into 6 semesters. Every semester lasts for the period of 6 months. Each year consists of 2 semesters.

BSc. Respiratory Care Technology: Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for Examination Pathway admissions through UPESEAT (Up to 80% of Seats)

  • Minimum 60% score at Higher and Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th)
  • Minimum 60% aggregate score in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at Senior Secondary level (12th)

Eligibility Criteria for Non Examination Pathway admissions through Board Merit or JEE Mains Score (Up to 20% of Seats).

  • For Board Merit list : Minimum score of 80% marks obtained at Higher and Senior Secondary level 10th and 12th and minimum score of 80% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at Senior level Secondary Exams in 12th class.
  • For JEE Mains Merit : Minimum 60% score at Higher and Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th) and minimum 60% aggregate score of marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Senior Secondary level (12th class). JEE Main exams cut off to be announced after declaration of JEE Mains result
